There will be no DVD, Blu-ray playback by default in Windows 8

As you can read on Techspot, Windows 8 will not support DVD or Blu-ray playback by default on Windows 8. This is a step closer to moving away from optical media. Apparently, Microsoft pays sky-high license fees in order to have this feature.  If you purchase a Windows Media upgrade, this feature will be available.

If you ask me, it’s time to put optical media to rest and focus on other more interesting technologies such as live streaming.
